400+ estates, one valley

Where to taste, by mood.

Napa rewards a plan but punishes an over-scheduled one. Here is a working shortlist — organised by the kind of afternoon you want, not by price. Pick two or three; we will build the route around them.

Pairing

Come hungry.

Estates where the kitchen earns its own following. Book these first — they fill weeks out.

Food & wine flights

B Cellars

Creative, seasonal bites matched to bold estate reds and whites on a breezy Oakville patio. Arrive hungry; the pairing is the point.

Oakville
Culinary estate

Cakebread Cellars

Family-run since 1973, with a kitchen-led tasting programme and one of the warmest welcomes in the valley. A safe bet for a first Napa day.

Rutherford
Long lunch

Robert Sinskey

Organic estate wines served with a small, precise menu in a Tuscan-feeling courtyard. Effortless, generous, and ideal for a slower afternoon.

Stags Leap District
Ambiance

The setting is the wine.

Gardens, stone terraces and rooms that make you want to stay for one more glass.

Village charm

Stewart Cellars

A Yountville tasting room that manages to feel like a friend's library — intimate, unhurried, and a short walk from the valley's best tables.

Yountville
Storybook estate

Spottswoode

Roses, old vines and a garden that belongs in a novel. One of the great Napa estates for a slow, seated tasting by appointment.

St. Helena
House of Flowers

Flowers Winery

Indoor and outdoor tastings in decadent gardens, with private experiences by appointment. Worth the drive west toward the coast.

Sonoma Coast
Boundary-pushing

For the curious palate.

Low intervention, unusual sites, and people who would rather explain a vineyard than a brand.

Retro-modern

Ashes & Diamonds

A former music producer's project on Highway 29: mid-century architecture, concrete eggs, and wines with a point of view. Excellent playlist.

Napa
Cult following

Matthiasson

Thoughtful farming and a wide-ranging cellar — Ribolla, Chardonnay, Cabernet — served in one of the valley's most relaxed tasting rooms.

Napa
Natural wine

Pax Wines

Site-driven Syrah and Chenin from some of the most interesting vineyards in California. Ask about the single-vineyard pours.

Sebastopol / Napa
Reputation

The names that earn it.

Estates with long histories and the allocation lists to prove it. Reservations essential.

Mountain estate

Promontory

A single hillside property in the eastern mountains, farmed to one wine. The tour is as considered as the bottle — allow three hours.

Napa
Historic

Inglenook

Rubicon, the château, the caves. A visit here is Napa history with a glass in hand, and the grounds alone justify the stop.

Rutherford
Sparkling

Schramsberg

Hand-riddled sparkling wine in nineteenth-century caves. One of the most atmospheric tours in the valley — book the cave tour.

Calistoga

Have somewhere
in mind already?

Good. That is the entire idea. Send us the names — including the small family cellar a friend told you about, or the estate you read about on a flight — and we will tell you honestly what fits into a day.

We hold relationships with drivers, hosts and estate managers across the valley, and we can often secure appointments that are not available through a booking widget. If a winery requires a membership or a personal introduction, say so and we will make a call.
